Liverpool: What can stop Arne Slot's side from winning the Premier League?

Image
Liverpool are now nine points clear at the top of the Premier League, their biggest margin as leaders in the competition since the final day of the 2019-20 campaign; Reds travel to Newcastle United on Wednesday night, then to archrivals Everton on Saturday lunchtime. The Opta Supercomputer says Liverpool now have a 85.1 per cent of winning the Premier League after their 2-0 win over champions Man City on Super Sunday saw them go nine points clear at the top - so what can stop Arne Slot's side from being crowned champions this season? Liverpool's dominant victory at Anfield over a City team that had won a record-breaking four successive top-flight titles in a row heading into this campaign gave the Reds a cavernous 11-point advantage over Pep Guardiola's side, while they also lead both Arsenal and Chelsea by nine points as we head into the busy Christmas period - the second-biggest lead at this stage of a Premier League season. Slot understandably was quick to dampen down ex...

Aston Villa  said they would back City, while  Arsenal, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester United, West Ham  and  Wolves  supported the league with evidence during the summer's arbitration. Manchester United transfer target is scoring goals for fun this season.

Image
Manchester United target scores four in Nations League victory; surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo record Gyokeres starred for Sweden last night, scoring four goals in a  6-0 win over Azerbaijan  in the UEFA Nations League. The Sporting CP star overtook Erling Haaland as the top scorer in the Nations League as he continues to outscore the Man City striker this season. Gyokeres started the evening with five goals in five Nations League matches. His third goal against Azerbaijan took him to eight goals in six games in this edition of the Nations League, one more than Haaland. But the 26-year-old didn’t stop there as he added a fourth goal soon after. Haaland had been top scorer ahead of the final round of games after scoring seven goals for Norway, including a hat-trick in their 5-0 win over Kazakhstan on Sunday. Little did he know that his tally would be bettered. However, Gyokeres was also involved in the build-up for Dusan Kulusevski’s opening goal. That means he came away fr...

San Marino earn promotion with first ever away win

Image
Liechtenstein 1-3 San Marino San Marino, the world's bottom ranked team, made history as they were promoted to the third tier of the Nations League with the first away win in their history - against Liechtenstein. It was also the first time they scored more than once in a competitive game and the first time they had scored three goals in any match. The minnows' two previous victories also came against Liechtenstein - a friendly in 2004 and a Nations League game in September, both 1-0 and both in San Marino. The country ranked 210th in the FIFA world rankings have lost 199 of the 211 fixtures they have contested. They have conceded 10 or more goals in seven games. Roberto Cevoli, who managed several lower-league Italian sides before becoming San Marino boss last year, has now led them to two wins in 10 games. And the nation landlocked by Italy did so by coming from behind to win a game for the first time. Liechtenstein, ranked 200th, took the lead with Aron Sele crashing in an e...

"He probably has some strikers there already, so we'll see," Gyokeres told  Fotboll Skanalen - and also revealed his desire to complete the season with Sporting. "No he hasn't [asked me to join him]. It's fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it's talk and nothing concrete."

Scotland Did it Again

Image
Clarke & Scotland find way to bounce back yet again                       Scotland did it again Facing intense criticism was not new for Scotland head coach Steve Clarke when his dejected players left Germany to the sound of a Bavarian oompah band after a deflating Euros campaign in the summer. Similarly, the heaps of praise now coming his way for revitalising the side following Andy Robertson's last-gasp winner in Warsaw is familiar too. An ability to bounce back from adversity is one of Clarke's key qualities - and the nation appear to be benefitting from that resilient mentality once again after ending their Nations League campaign with wins over Croatia and Poland. The Scots will have to navigate a relegation play-off in March to ensure they remain with the big hitters, but a formation shift - coupled with the addition of teenage winger Ben Doak - has refreshed a team many suggested had hit their ceiling. But six Nati...

Sudan And Benin Qualified for Afcon 2025

Image
Sudan seal Afcon 2025 spot as Benin also go through Sudanese Celebrating their glory.  Sudan's footballers have defied the nation's civil war to clinch a remarkable qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a tense last round of matches that also saw Benin progress to next year's finals. Sudan have been forced to stage their home ties on neutral turf while the country's domestic league has been suspended since  the conflict started in April last year. The Falcons of Jediane needed just a point from their last two fixtures, but fell to a 4-0 defeat away against Niger on Thursday. However, they managed to secure second place in Group F after playing out a goalless draw against already-qualified Angola in Libya. Niger, who could have capitalised on another slip up by Sudan, therefore missed out on qualification by a point despite Oumar Sako's 92nd-minute goal giving them a 2-1 win over Ghana in Accra. Meanwhile, in Group D, Benin achieved the draw they n...

A response to the charge sent by Tottenham on behalf of Bentancur said: "Rodrigo’s reply was sarcastic and a gentle rebuke for the journalist calling Sonny 'the Korean'". "Rodrigo does not believe that all Koreans 'look more or less the same'. The context of the exchange clearly shows Rodrigo is being sarcastic... Rodrigo was challenging the journalist in his description of his club team-mate." It was also submitted that Bentancur's apology for his comments was "not for what he said, but for the inadequate reporting on the interview which excluded" the presenter's reference to Son as "the Korean".
